Start with what you need to keep private: a public profile, journal entries, notifications on a shared phone, or a cloud copy. Those are different questions. RecoveryRoad publishes this page and is one of the products compared. The order below is not a security ranking.
Ask five practical questions
- Can I use the functions I need without posting to other people?
- Which activities require an account, and what does that account store?
- What is kept on the device, sent to a service, or included in a backup?
- What can someone see on my unlocked phone or notification previews?
- What happens when I export, change phones, delete the app, or ask support for help?
Check the current policy and platform disclosure, not just a feature label. This review does not establish encryption strength or legal compliance.
RecoveryRoad
Everyday journal and check-in content is designed for on-device use, without a public recovery feed. Store billing, website requests, and optional services have separate data considerations. Local storage is not a guaranteed backup.
Nomo
Nomo describes private-by-default clocks, journaling, and optional partner features. Its store history documents guest use. Check which sharing and backup functions require an account. A public profile is not a prerequisite for every form of Nomo tracking.
I Am Sober
I Am Sober combines daily pledges, reflection, and community. Sober Plus advertises private groups, app locking, and backups. Those features do different jobs, so review the one you plan to use instead of treating the presence of a community as proof that every entry is public.
Keep a copy of the questions
Use the same questions for every app, including ours. Record the platform, version, source, and date for an answer. Leave an answer unknown rather than filling it with an assumption.

Is a private group the same as on-device storage?
No. A private group limits an audience within a service. On-device storage describes where information is kept. Backups, purchases, and optional services need separate review.
Does a missing comparison value mean an app lacks the feature?
No. Not verified means the review did not establish the attribute. Check the current provider documentation and your actual platform.
